True music lovers know that a beat, a melody, a bassline, a vocal, is something you feel and not just hear – 23 year old DJ, producer and record label boss, Matt Samuels, is no exception and a keen subscriber to this belief. Matt’s musical vocation started the second he hit his teenage years. At just 13 years young, he boldly followed his instincts, acquiring the basic set-up needed to blend the curious sounds he felt resonating from the speakers of his older peers. This was ten years ago, and it was the unfamiliar sounds of Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine, Sasha and John Digweed that gripped the young Matt. The enormous influence of these DJ's clearly laid solid foundations for the progress he made over the following decade, somehow ingraining in him a fervent love for dance music that still drives him today. The passion of mixing great tunes inevitably led Matt to the production desk, where he could translate his own sonic ideas into reality. For two years now he’s been tirelessly mastering the production process, sparking much play support from globally renowned artists like James Zabiela, Satoshi Tomiie, Hernan Cattaneo, Nic Fancuilli, Sander Kleinenberg, Max Graham, Dave Dresden, plus many more. This growing wave of interest ultimately led to Matt Samuels having his tracks and remixes signed to strong independent labels; the likes of Plastic Fantastic, Deeper Substance, Frik n Frak and Toolroom Records all picked up on Matt’s production and remix ability at an early stage. Fast forward to early 2006, and Matt now oversees two record labels of his own: Innovate Recordings - releases bigger sounding tracks and features artists such as CCCP, Rhythm Code, PJ Davy, Andrew K and more. Sequential Records - releases more tech / house orientated tracks that features Dave Spoon, Dave Robertson, Joshua Collins, Jon Gurd and more. We can all expect much more exciting output from both Innovate and Sequential this year, releases in the pipeline from… Dave Robertson, PJ Davy, Joshua Collins, CCCP and more. Despite the demanding workload associated with label management, Matt will be undertaking further production and remix duties, as well as committing himself to more DJ appearances.
